DERMAL FILLERS

Collagen and elastin are the main building blocks for a healthy, young looking skin. And as we age collagen and elastin production in our body reduces tremendously.

Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid which is the same substance found in a young skin. Hyaluronic acid is fully bio-degradable gel and it’s non -animal product.  Most dermal fillers contain Lidocaine which helps to reduce pain during treatment.

LIP FILLERS

Lip Fillers are very popular treatment and a range of concerns related to the lips can be treated:

  • Narrow lips
  • Lost moisture and fullness
  • Lost definition

Q & A:

1. Is there any side effects to lip fillers?

You might experience some side effects from few days to a few weeks  after lip filler treatment:

  • Bruising
  • Swelling

All risks and side effects are discussed with you on your consultation with aesthetic practitioner.

2. Will I get a “Duck Effect lips”?

No. We use a special technique which prevents product from traveling to cutaneous upper lip.

3. How long will my lip filler last?

Like most cosmetic procedures, lip fillers will not last forever. But they still last a good while , and you can always decide later if you want to touch them up.

4. Are lip injections painful?

The injections may cause some slight discomfort during the procedure, but it’s nothing to worry too much about. You will get a numbing cream put on your lips beforehand, and the actual fillers have lidocaine in them to make it more comfortable. Your lips may feel a bit tender with some swelling for a couple of days afterwards.

5. Can I exercise after lip injection treatment?

It’s best to avoid exercising for the first 24 hours after the procedure. An increased blood flow to your face will only make the swelling worse, so let your lips settle down before going to the gym.

6. What aftercare I need to follow after lip filler treatment?

Try to avoid touching your lips, avoid alcohol intake first 48 hours before treatment and 48 hours after treatment, you can use cold compress on your lips to reduce swelling, but avoid placing ice cubes on your lips. Do not expose treated area to heat: sun, solarium, sauna or other intense facial treatments for one week after treatment and follow any other advice from your aesthetic practitioner.

DERMAPEN MICRONEEDING

DermaPen is a skin micro-needling treatment with minimum downtime which promotes scarless healing and natural collagen production in the skin to improve the appearance of scars, acne scarring, stretch marks, wrinkles, pigmentation and rejuvenate the skin.

1. What Are The Benefits Of A Dermapen?

A dermapen is an effective way to remove acne scarring and imperfections on the skin, the biggest benefit is the improvement in overall skin tone and texture that comes about after the treatment, along with the minimised appearance of pores in the skin, reduced superficial wrinkles and reduced appearance of stretch marks.

2. How Does The Dermapen Work?

A dermapen works through a method of puncturing the skin through a spring-loaded automated function, the dermapen uses microneedles to move up and down across the skin, puncturing small holes as it moves. The mechanism inside the dermapen causes the stimulation of healthy collagen and the small punctures in the skin to allow for nutrients to be absorbed into the deep layers of the skin. The dermapen process is fast and therefore doesn’t damage the dermal layers of the skin.

3. Is Dermapen The Same As Microneedling?

Dermapen is a brand name for a microneedling tool.

Instead of the traditional microneedling roller which is essentially a wheel covered in microneedles, a dermapen is a handheld device designed to overcome all the issues of a traditional derma roller.

The dermapen offers adjustable depth so the treatment isn’t too deep in sensitive areas along with being fitted with surgical grade disposable needles for a patient’s safety.

4. Does a Microneedling treatment hurt?

There are two types of Microneedling treatments. The first type calls for the use of an aesthetic cream to numb the area, to allow for a deeper, more aggressive Microneedling treatment. The second type involves using Microneedlin at a shallower depth, eliminating the need to pre-treat the skin with an aesthetic cream. Depending on the patient’s skin and the type of treatment provided, the skin may appear red and irritated for a few days. Specially formulated creams can be used before and after a Microneedling treatment to minimize this effect.

5. How quickly are results visible?

Visibly rejuvenated skin can generally be seen after just 6-8 days following a procedure, with results further improving over time. A course of Microneedling sessions is usually recommended to achieve optimal results; however, improvement is usually noticeable after just one treatment.

6. Is Microneedling safe?

Injections are not a part of a Microneedling treatment, so allergic reactions and side-effects are unlikely to occur. The procedure is minimally invasive, which means that there is virtually no downtime and the healing process is quick. Aftercare is also very simple and can be fully administered at home.

7. Are there any side effects or risks associated with skin needling?

Side effects experienced with Microneedling will usually subside within 48 hours. They include erythema, stinging, itching and tightness of the skin.

8. My face has a few slightly raised red and itchy lesions today, is that normal and something the client may experience?

Yes absolutely normal. Some people just get red and dry skin, others get quite flaky dry and red skin, others tend to break out in lots of lumps like pimples but they go away in 3 days. So yes, it is normal and is just the body purging itself of toxins.

9. What can be expected after Microneedling treatment?

Day1: Day 2: Day 3:

Erythema and redness, severity of which will depend upon the aggressiveness of the performed treatment.

Red or pink hue similar to moderate sunburn may persist. There may be some noticeable swelling on the second day.

Skin may still retain a pink hue, or return to normal colour. Swelling subsides.

10. Can you have the treatment in conjunction with IPL hair and/or rejuvenation settings and what should be the time gap? E.g. if a client has just had hair removal this week with IPL can they have Microneedling next week or even the same week?

Not IPL rejuvenation. The client would get scar tissue from a double wound healing response. They could do pigment, but really why would they need to do this when the Microneedlingprovides the versatility? 4 week intervals if they absolutely had to.

11. What if they have had electrolysis? Is this still okay to use the Microneedling?

Again this is fine to use but it is best to let their skin heal for a week or 2 or they will be more sensitive. It shouldn’t be a problem but the pain levels they experience during the treatment may be greater. This of course depends on the electrolysis practitioner because some tend to cause more damage than others to the skin and therefore require more healing time

12. How many treatments a year can someone have? I understand its every 4-6 weeks between treatments?

6-8 weeks, a course of 4-8 on average. As Microneedling results are essentially permanent; it is not like a micro where it must be ongoing.

13. Should Botox users wait 6 weeks before having a Botox treatment?

Clients who have had Botox treatments should ideally wait 2 weeks either side of having Microneedling treatment.

5. What aftercare I need to follow after anti-wrinkle treatment?

  • As with any medicine, the injection of Botox may cause side effects in some patients.
  • Do not worry when you read this list of side effects, you may not have any.
  • Side effects usually occur within the first few days of injection and are temporary.
  • The most common side effect is headache, drooping of the eyelid, skin redness, local muscle weakness and facial pain.
  • Other side effects may be associated with the injection (bruising, redness, pain, burning, stinging, swelling).
  • Adverse reactions possibly related to the spread of toxin distant from the site of administration have rarely been reported with botulinum toxin (e.g. muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing or pneumonia due to unwanted food or liquid in the airways).
  • Do NOT manipulate the treated area for 3 hours following treatment.
  • Do NOT receive facial/laser treatments or microdermabrasion after Botox injections for at least 10 days. Ask your provider if you are not sure about the time frame of certain services.
  • Some providers believe that smiling and frowning right after Botox treatments helps the Botox find its way to the muscle into which it was injected after treated.
  • Do NOT lie down for 4 hours after your Botox treatment. This will prevent the Botox from tracking into the orbit of your eye and causing drooping eyelid.
  • Do NOT perform activities involving straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise for 6 hours after treatment. This will keep the Botox in the injected area and not elsewhere.

It can take approximately 4 to 7 days for results to be seen. If the desired result is not seen after 2 weeks of your treatment you may need additional Botox.
